Prime Minister receives petition in support of the Government
The Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Feleti Sevele, yesterday received a petition from the people, in support of the Government, calling for Law and Order, Peace and Good Governance.
The petition was addressed to His Majesty King George the Vth to the Royal Palace, the Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Feleti Sevele and the Speaker of the House, the Hon. Tu'iha'angana.
The petition, which was signed by over a thousand eight hundred people so far, was presented to the Prime Minister by Rev. Toe'umu Fineanganofo and Dr. Toakase Fakakovikaetau.
Dr. Toakase Fakakovikaetau stated that the petition is just an attempt to let His Majesty the King and the Government hear the voice of the silent majority who do not support the objectives and the actions of those who caused the destruction of November 16th.
According to Toakase, not all signatures have been submitted, due to the restrictions imposed by the current state of emergency, but there was a need for the voice of the people to be heard already, in support of His Majesty and His Majesty's Government.
The petition has asked for the list of signatures to be still considered open so that other supporters can voice their concerns.
The people gave thanks, amongst other things, for His Majesty's gracious agreement to Cabinet's proposal for political reform, the Honourable Prime Minister's and Cabinet's untiring efforts to bring about political reform in a peaceful and orderly manner, and the Government's quick action to bring about normality to Tonga.
In their petition to His Majesty, the Government and the Parliament, the people appealed for the restoration of the peace and freedom that the country had enjoyed for the past 131 years, and suggested various ways for moving forward with the process of political reform.
The supporters of the petition acknowledged that no Government is perfect, but reaffirmed their support to King George the V and the Government.
