Preserving tradition through intelligent and rational choices:
lThe emotional impulse and prejudice demonstrated by Sione Mokofisi and the individual from New York over my recent editorial comments in the Matangi Tonga is a matter of sentiment and twisted logic that influenced them to side step my point. Siosaia Moimoiangaha articulated my point very well. Richard Wolfgram added more premises with stunning examples illustrating the importance of why we should be concerned about the environment and make a conscious effort to restore the beauty of Tonga. The world is moving towards a knowledge-based economy and we have a moral and ethical responsibility to help the country we love...more

TONGA'S RUSH TO POLITICAL CATASTROPHE
TUSAT October Political Editorial)
1stkingWith the release of the report of the National Committee for Political Reform last week, there has been some discussion of the way forward for the political reform process in the country. The people are not yet totally out of the mourning period for his late Majesty, and so the report has not yet to filtered down to the grassroot for further discussion and scrutiny. Even if the country was not otherwise preoccupied, it will take time for the report and its recommendations to be fully appreciated and understood. In the absence of any national consensus on what the report says, it might be useful to posture different views of what the report, taken as a whole, means and holds for the country...more

LONG LIVE KING GEORGE TUPOU V
crownTongans weary and apprehensive after they lost the King, are no more. They have a new King which promises continuity and peace. King George Tupou V has the vision and pragmatism to assure that the polity he inherits does not go to waste as many journals and naysayers otherwise makes many to believe. He has been instrumental in implementing the wishes for political and economic reform of King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV and his people. George Tupou V is expected to put those into perpetuity minding always that it suits the time and not a pittance out of line. His late father once said that it is always essential that he be the first in the world to see the coming of the new day. King George Tupou V, may be well disposed that it is now his turn to do just that.
Long Live the King! Long Live King George Tupou V! God Save the King!
from your humble servants... the TUSAT Staff.

TONGANS LOOSES THE FATHER OF THEIR NATION
(What will we do without him - In Memoriam)
tongaLike the small child pondering his next meal on hearing his mother say that President Kennedy is dead, Tongans on all corners of the globe may be wondering what will happen to us when the King is gone. They have lived with him for a whole generation and like a large family had shared his love, guidance and misgivings but never felt his anger. Though stern and determined in his political homilies and map-making, he is never known to have ever raised his voice in whimsical tantrums when addressing those that did not believe in his vision for the country. He had a big heart and globe trotted untiringly to find the Rainbow that will lead his people to knowledge and prosperity. His dreams for his country was a self-sufficient nation participating in world events and never found sitting on the wayside. He was a Philosopher King and shook the Western World during the Cold War when he made friends with Soviet Russia. He was a Leviathan in that everything he did was never done in vain. He was a Good Shepperd in that he looked for the goodness in humanity and rarely brought down the yoke even for the deserving ones. In the end He was a GOOD MAN, and we loved him.
God be with you, our King, till we meet again..
